Women's Soccer Releases 2023 Schedule
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team and third-year head coach Jenna Kalwa have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2023 season. Highlighting the Blue Jays' 17-game regular-season slate are nine home matches which are set to be played on the USJ Soccer Field on the campus of USJ.
FULL 2023 WOMEN'S SOCCER SCHEDULE
The women's soccer team lifts the lid on its 2023 campaign with a four-game homestretch, starting with a matchup against crosstown foes and Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) members the University of Hartford on Friday, September 1. Kickoff against the Hawks is set for 4:00 p.m. The Blue Jays then immediately begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, hosting intrastate and conference rivals Albertus Magnus College to the USJ Soccer Field on Tuesday, September 5.
Rounding out the four-game homestand to begin the season, Saint Joseph rounds out its nonconference portion of the 2023 slate, welcoming intrastate foe Connecticut College of New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) on Thursday, September 7, and conference newcomers New England College on Saturday September 7. Kickoff against the Camels is set for 6:00 p.m., while the game against the Pilgrims is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
USJ will then head on the road for the first time in 2023, traveling to the other newest team in the GNAC, Mitchell College on Wednesday, September 13. Kickoff against the Mariners is set for 1:00 p.m. in New London, Conn. Following the trip East, the Blue Jays return to West Hartford for a matchup against Simmons University on Saturday, September 16 at 2:30 p.m.
Rounding out the month of September, Saint Joseph hits the road for a two-match road trip, first stopping in Paxton, Mass., for a meeting against Anna Maria College on Wednesday, September 20, before heading north to Nashua, N.H., for a matchup at Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, September 23. USJ will then come back home and take on Rivier University for a midweek match on Tuesday, September 26, before concluding the opening month of the season on the road at Regis College on Saturday, September 30.
When the calendar flips over to October, women's soccer starts the second half of the season with a home match against the three-time defending GNAC champions, Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday, October 4. The Blue Jays then play four of its next five games on the road, starting with a visit to Elms College on Saturday, October 7, before returning home for its penultimate regular season home match of the year, facing off with Lasell University on Tuesday, October 10.
The Blue Jays begin its final stretch of the regular season with a three-game road trip, first making a stop at Dean College on Saturday, October 14, before heading to Boston for a matchup against Emmanuel College on Wednesday, October 18. Saint Joseph rounds out the trip with its final regular season road game, heading to Northfield, Vt., to face Norwich University on Saturday, October 21 before returning home to host Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday, October 24 for its regular-season finale ahead of the GNAC Tournament.
The top-ten teams in the league standings advance to the 2023 GNAC Tournament, which is set to begin with the first round on Thursday, October 26, with the seventh and eight seeds serving as hosts. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, October 28 and are hosted by the top-four seeds, followed by the Semifinals on Wednesday, November 1, which will be hosted by the remaining two highest seeds. The 2023 GNAC Championship Match is set for Saturday, November 4 and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
The Blue Jays finished eighth in the regular-season standings at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign and earned a berth to the postseason tournament for the 22nd consecutive season, extending the all-time school record for longest postseason streak by any USJ team. As the eighth seed, the Blue Jays were matched up against top-seeded Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Quarterfinals, but fell to the eventual champions to conclude their season.
