Jaecee Martin Collects Second GNAC Weekly Honor
WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior point guard Jaecee Martin (Hartford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its 12th weekly report of the 2021-22 season. It marks the second career GNAC weekly honor for Martin and the fourth for the nationally-ranked No. 5 USJ men's basketball team this season.
In a 3-0 GNAC week for the No. 5 Blue Jays, the last undefeated team in Division III (21-0), Martin averaged 14.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 51.6% (16-31 FG, 10-17 FT), as USJ defeated the #2, #3 and #4 teams in the league standings. In-state Connecticut rival Albertus Magnus provided a road scare to USJ last Monday, as Martin had 16 points and nine boards in a narrow 85-81 victory. He also registered a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double in a road win over Lasell before producing 12 points and eight assists against Emmanuel, as Saint Joseph pulled away in the second half.
Martin continues to be one of the best point guards not only in the GNAC, but in Division III men's basketball. The 5-10 sparkplug is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.2 points per game, and is third on the team in rebounding with 4.9 rebounds per game. He also ranks second in the GNAC in assists per game, dishing out 6.0 dimes per contest, and that mark also slots him 18th in all of Division III.
