Volleyball Falls at Home to Local Foe Trinity College Wednesday Night
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to local foe Trinity College (Trinity), 3-0, Wednesday night inside James A. Calhoun Gymnasium in West Hartford, Conn. The Bantams won the match by scores of 25-16, 25-3, and 25-22. With the result, the Blue Jays fall to 0-4 on the year, while the Bantams move to 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior middle blocker Sofia Weiss (Babylon, N.Y.) opened the match with a kill to give USJ the first point, but Trinity responded with a 6-1 run to take early control.

Junior outside hitter Shaye Harris (Bloomfield, Conn.) added three first-set kills, keeping USJ within striking distance before the Bantams pulled away to secure the opener, 25-16.

Trinity dominated the second set, storming out to an 11-0 lead behind the serving of Sarai Davis, who notched three aces during the stretch. Weiss stopped the run with a kill, but the Bantams hit .684 in the frame to win 25-3.

USJ regrouped in the third, trading points with Trinity throughout the set. Harris tallied three kills during the stretch, while sophomore setter Gabi Wanner (Southington, Conn.) delivered an ace to tie things at 12-all.

The Blue Jays continued to battle late, with Harris serving an ace to make it 23-21, but Trinity held on for the final two points to edge the set, 25-22, and complete the sweep.

Harris led USJ with seven kills, adding five digs and one ace.

Wanner finished with a team-best 16 assists, three digs, and one ace.

Weiss tallied three kills and two block assists at the net.

Sophomore libero Alyssa Dugas (Newington, Conn.) chipped in five digs.

Trinity outhit USJ, .313 to .068, behind 44 kills and 12 service aces.

The Bantams were led by Davis, who posted five kills, four aces, and five digs.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays head to Northampton, Mass., for the Bonnie May Invitational, hosted by Smith College, on Friday, September 5 and Saturday September 6. USJ will first play Elmira on Friday at 7:00 p.m., before meeting the host Bears on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The team concludes the invitational against Vassar College on Saturday at noon.
