Women's Soccer Ties Colby-Sawyer 1-1 Saturday Afternoon

NEW LONDON, N.H. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team was held to a 1-1 draw on the road against Colby-Sawyer College (CSC) during a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match Saturday afternoon at Kelsey Field in New London, N.H. With the result, the Blue Jays moved to 2-4-1 overall on the season and 2-0-1 in GNAC play, while the Chargers jumped to 2-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference.

The Blue Jays wasted no time getting on the board, as senior forward Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) buried a chance in the fourth minute to hand USJ a 1-0 lead.

Junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) anchored the defense throughout the first half, coming up with several key stops to preserve the advantage at the break. USJ pressed for a second goal early in the second half, with senior forward Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Julia Loughman (Wolcott, Conn.) both testing the Colby-Sawyer keeper. Graduate forward Elizabeth Garlock (Meriden, Conn.) added to the pressure with multiple shots on frame, while Picard continued to cause problems for the Chargers' back line.

The Blue Jays stayed organized defensively but conceded the equalizer in the 83rd minute, setting up a tense finish. USJ responded with a late push, forcing two saves in the final 10 minutes, but could not find the game-winner as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
