Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Emmanuel, 18–12, in GNAC Regular‑Season Finale
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emmanuel struck first with five goals in the opening quarter, but USJ answered early through senior midfielder Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and junior attack Anna LeGault (Colchester, Conn.) to keep the contest within reach. The Saints held a 5–2 edge after 15 minutes.
The Saints added four more goals in the second quarter to build a 9–4 halftime advantage. Sophomore attack Kailey Krusewski (Newington, Conn.) scored twice in the frame for USJ, pushing her season total to 63 goals at the break.
USJ showed resilience in the third quarter, trading goals with Emmanuel. LeGault and Picard each scored in the period, but Emmanuel maintained control and carried an 11–6 lead into the final quarter.
The Blue Jays mounted a late push in the fourth, scoring six times over the final 15 minutes. Krusewski netted two more goals, while LeGault added three in the quarter to complete a five‑goal performance on the night. Despite the surge, Emmanuel answered with seven goals in the period to secure the 18–12 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- LeGault led USJ with five goals, finishing the regular season with 61 goals.
- Krusewski recorded a four‑goal night to close the season with a team‑leading 65 goals.
- Picard contributed two goals and two assists, increasing her season totals to 39 goals and 35 assists.
- Junior midfielder Paige Rieger (New Fairfield, Conn.) added a goal, while junior midfielder Reagan Buscetto (Montville, Conn.) tallied two assists.
As a team, USJ was outshot 33–27 and held a 26–22 disadvantage in shots on goal. Emmanuel also held an edge in draw controls (19–13) and committed fewer turnovers (24–28).
In goal, junior goalkeeper Abigail Hubbard (Billings, Mont.) made seven saves in 42:47 of action. Senior Colleen Stringer (Point Lookout, N.Y.) and sophomore Erika Horne (Killingly, Conn.) also saw time in net.
