Women's Basketball Falls on the Road at WestConn on Tuesday
DANBURY, Conn. — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team fell on the road to intrastate, non-conference foe WestConn, 70–44, Tuesday night inside the William A. O'Neill Center. With the result, the Blue Jays drop to 0–6 on the season, while the Wolves move to 3–3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolves gained the early advantage, opening on an 11–3 run with 5:53 left in the first quarter. USJ mounted a late response, using a 6–2 stretch fueled by four points from junior forward Gjamory'a McTier (Palmer, Mass.) to close the gap to 17–11 entering the second quarter.
WestConn got off to another hot start in the second stanza, utilizing an 11–2 run to build a double-digit advantage, 28–13, at the 6:35 mark. The Blue Jays answered in kind, exploding for a 12–4 stretch paced by six points from sophomore guard Ella Kulas (Cheshire, Conn.), trimming the deficit to 32–24 with 1:19 remaining. The teams traded baskets to close the half, with WestConn carrying a 36–27 lead into the break.
The Wolves controlled the third quarter, limiting the Blue Jays to four points as they extended their lead to 48–31 entering the fourth. WestConn carried the momentum into the final frame, pushing its advantage to 60–34 with 7:09 left to play. The deficit ultimately proved too much for USJ to overcome, as the Wolves secured the 70–44 victory.

WestConn outshot USJ 44.3 percent (27-of-61) to 28.3 percent (17-of-60).

The Wolves won the battle of the boards, outrebounding USJ, 44–38.
