Men's Soccer Falls on the Road at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer fell on the road to Wheaton College (Wheaton), 9-1, Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field in Norton, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays drop to 1-1-0, while the Lyons move to 2-0-1.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

• Wheaton struck first in the 10th minute, establishing a quick 1-0 lead.
• The Lyons continued to control the opening stretch of the game, netting a second in the 15th minute, extending the lead to 2-0.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) would make four saves throughout the remainder of the half, but USJ could not generate scoring chances, as the team entered the halftime break down 2-0.
• Wheaton extended the gap in the 48th minute, finding the back of the net again to hold a 3-0 edge.
• USJ would pull one a goal back, as senior forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) assisted a sophomore midfielder Elis Sulollari (Cheshire, Conn.) goal in the 52nd minute, but Wheaton quickly reestablished a three-goal lead, 4-1, after converting a penalty kick 20 seconds after Sulollari's goal.
• The offensive onslaught continued for Wheaton, as they fired five more goals into the back of the net, securing the win, 9-1.

• Ofori dished out his first assist of the year.
• Wheaton outshot USJ, 35-10, including a 19-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Blue Jays round out a quick two-game road trip with a visit downtown to Trinity College on Tuesday, September 9. Kickoff against the Bantams on the Trinity Soccer Field in Hartford, Conn., is set for 7:00 p.m.
