Men's Soccer Stunned In Second Half, Falls To JWU Saturday, 1-0
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team was dealt a crushing blow in a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University (JWU), in a pivotal Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match on the USJ Soccer Field Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps USJ's three-game winning streak.
Senior forward DeAnte Anderson (Bloomfield, Conn.) and others had some pretty good opportunities in both the first and second half, but to no avail, as both teams left it all out on the field in what was a physical contest from start to finish. The lone goal came on a controversial hand ball call just inside the box, setting up a penalty kick and goal for senior forward JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.), who sliced one past sophomore goalie Jose Miguel Garcia Martin (Madrid, Spain) for the game's only point. Martin added six saves in a losing effort.

COACH QUOTE [Paul Wright] "We put up a great fight against a really tough team. It was very close, and unfortunately it just didn't go our way. We had a penalty called against us that was unlucky. Those calls happen. We pushed hard, but could not get the equalizer. Overall, I am proud of the effort, and we will dust ourselves off and get ready for the next one."
