Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Albertus Magnus, 15–5, to Close Regular Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team ended its 2026 regular season in style Tuesday night, cruising past intrastate and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Albertus Magnus College, 15–5, at Celentano Field.

With the win, the Blue Jays—who secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GNAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament—improved to 13–2 overall and 10–1 in conference play, while the Falcons concluded their season at 5–11 overall and 2–9 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • USJ controlled the pace from the outset, opening the scoring at the 12:28 mark of the first quarter when junior midfielder Brenden Tedeschi (Orange, Vt.) found the back of the net.
  • The Blue Jays added a late goal in the closing seconds of the period, as sophomore midfielder Chris Clancy (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished a feed from junior midfielder JD DeNicola‑Rakvin (Staten Island, N.Y.) to give USJ a 2–0 lead after one.
  • USJ broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring eight times to carry a commanding 10–0 advantage into halftime. Senior attack Freeman Johnson (Swanzey, N.H.) sparked the run with a man‑up goal, while DeNicola‑Rakvin, senior attack Nick Pestrichello (Newington, Conn.), and sophomore attack Dominic Oakes (Southington, Conn.) also contributed during the surge.
  • The Blue Jays continued to extend their lead in the third quarter, adding three more goals. Pestrichello scored first before Tedeschi netted back‑to‑back tallies to make it 13–0 entering the fourth.
  • Albertus Magnus got on the board early in the final frame, but USJ responded with goals from freshman midfielder AJ Valone (Sayville, N.Y.) and junior attack Alexander Milne (Branford, Conn.) to push the margin to 15–2. The Falcons added a few late scores, but the outcome was never in doubt as the Blue Jays secured the 15–5 conference victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Pestrichello paced the Blue Jays with five points on four goals and one assist.
  • Oakes added four points on two goals and two assists, while Tedeschi recorded a hat trick.
  • Senior defenseman Nick Wesley (Wakefield, Mass.) anchored the defense, collecting a team‑high nine ground balls and causing four turnovers.
  • Graduate student attack Brycen Kennedy (Southington, Conn.) also caused four turnovers.
