Field Hockey Erupts for 7 Goals, Rolls Past Elms on the Road Wednesday Night

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team got back on track in a big way Wednesday night, netting a season-high seven goals in a 7-1 victory over Elms College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Timothy J. Leary Field. With the result, the Blue Jays snapped a three-game skid and improved to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in GNAC play, while the Blazers fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.

USJ wasted no time building a cushion with a pair of first-quarter goals. Senior forward Isabella Pelletier (Weare, N.H.) opened the scoring at 7:29 off an assist from fellow senior forward Aurelia Barker (Thomaston, Conn.), before senior midfielder Ariana Komonaj (Thomaston, Conn.) doubled the advantage just four minutes later, again set up by Barker.

The Blue Jays extended the margin in the second quarter when freshman forward Juliana Meglio (Watertown, Conn.) buried a pass from junior forward Gabriella Borruso (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) at 28:30, sending USJ into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

The scoring continued after the break. Sophomore forward Grace Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) struck twice in the third period—once off a feed from Barker at 35:16 and again at 42:04 on a setup from Komonaj—to push the lead to 5-0.

Elms broke through early in the fourth quarter when Julianna Morrissette scored at 48:08, but USJ answered with two more tallies to cap its season-best offensive night. Junior forward Alexa Maser (New Hartford, Conn.) converted at 50:48, and Borruso capped the night with a goal less than 90 seconds later, assisted by Komonaj.

Barker paced the Blue Jays' attack with three assists and a game-high seven shots (six on goal). Komonaj also recorded seven shots (five on goal) and finished with a goal and two assists, while Kociszewski added two goals. In all, seven different USJ players recorded either a goal or an assist in the team's highest-scoring outing of 2025.

The Blue Jays dominated statistically, outshooting Elms 40-1 overall and 27-1 in shots on goal, while also holding a 9-1 edge in penalty corners. Elms goalkeeper Kaitlyn Lynes made 18 saves in a valiant effort, while USJ's tandem of junior Jaci Felix-Hull (East Lyme, Conn.) and senior Eryn Harvey (North Kingstown, R.I.) shared time in goal, combining for the win.
