Carey Named to Women's Volleyball All-GNAC Third Team
WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior outside hitter Shannon Carey (Bayport, N.Y.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's volleyball team was tabbed to the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Third Team, it was announced Tuesday by the league's front office. It marks the second career All-Conference nod for Carey, as she was named to the All-GNAC Third Team a year ago. Additionally, senior defensive specialist Katina Nanos (Lebanon, Conn.) was selected to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as the conference unveiled its year-end awards, which are voted on by the league's 16 head coaches.
Competing in all 29 matches this season, Carey led the team in numerous statistical categories. Offensively, Carey paced the Blue Jays with 244 kills, the 14th-most in the conference, good for 2.71 kills per set, which was the ninth-highest total in the GNAC. Her collective point total of 294 points saw her finish 11th in the GNAC. She also was stellar defensively, ranking second on the team with 179 digs.
