Volleyball Drops GNAC Match on the Road at Regis Friday Night

WESTON, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) volleyball team fell on the road at Regis College (Regis), 3-0, during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Friday night on Higgins Court in Weston, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays drop to 3-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while the Pride move to 12-6 on the year and 4-1 in the GNAC.

KEY MOMENTS

  • USJ opened the match strong, taking a 3-0 lead after a kill from junior outside hitter Rachel Heaney (Torrington, Conn.) and a service ace from senior outside hitter Shannon Carey (Bayport, N.Y.)
  • However, the Pride would answer back, using a 7-1 stretch to take a 7-4 lead and force a USJ timeout.
  • The Blue Jays would pull back within two, 8-6, after a freshman outside hitter Shaye Harris (Prospect, Conn.) kill, but Regis would extend the gap to nine, 20-11.
  • USJ responded with a 4-0 stretch to get back within five, 20-15, but the Pride closed the set on a 5-1 run of their own, winning the opening set, 25-16.
  • USJ again took a 3-0 lead in the second set after two aces from sophomore setter Alexandra Long (East Hartford, Conn.), but the Pride quickly retied the set at 3-3.
  • However, the Blue Jays would explode offensively, utilizing an 8-2 run, featuring five Regis errors, to establish a 11-5 lead and force a Regis timeout.
  • The Pride would gain momentum out of the break, cutting the deficit to four, 14-10, but a 4-1 USJ run reestablished a seven-point USJ edge, 18-11.
  • Senior middle blocker Victoria Adler (Berlin, Conn.) picked up a timely kill for USJ to give USJ a 22-15 edge, but Regis responded with a 9-0 run to get within match point, 24-22.
  • USJ fought back to tie the score at 24-24, but the Pride picked up the following two points, winning the set, 26-24, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • Regis carried the momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 12-4 edge.
  • The Pride continued to dominate, winning the set, 25-5, and the match, 3-0.

The Blue Jays step out of GNAC play for their penultimate non-conference matchup of the year, heading to Danbury, Conn., to face intrastate foes Western Connecticut State University on Thursday, October 12. First serve against the Wolves inside Feldman Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
