Women's Tennis Sweeps Suffolk at Home, 7-0, Tuesday Afternoon
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team swept its second-consecutive opponent, defeating Suffolk University, 7-0, in Conference of New England (CNE) play Tuesday afternoon at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays improved to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in CNE play, while the Rams dropped to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Bernae Webb (Bridgeport, Conn.) and junior Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) fought hard at No. 3 doubles, but fell to Nelson/Hills, 6-1.

Sophomore Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) levelled the doubles portion of the match at No. 1 doubles, claiming a dominant 6-1 win over Nguyen/Whitfield.

Junior Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.) and senior Allie Long (East Hartford, Conn.) followed suit with a composed 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles against Bebb/Lanczycki, clinching the doubles point for the Blue Jays and establishing a 1-0 lead in the match.

Rossetti was locked in from the start at No. 1 singles, overpowering Nguyen 6-1, 6-0 to double the USJ lead, 2-0.

Sophomore Carolina Mancini (Manchester, Conn.) followed suit at No. 4 singles, cruising past Lassner, 6-1, 6-1 and extending the lead to 3-0.

Long rounded out her perfect day at No. 5 singles, securing a straight-set win over Lanczycki, 6-2, 6-0, and the match victory for USJ, 4-0.

Freshman Anna Beauchene (Bristol, Conn.) claimed victory at No. 6 singles with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 decision over Nishnianidze, furthering the gap to 5-0.

Garcia followed with a clinical performance at No. 2 singles, defeating Bebb 6-2, 6-3, to make it 6-0 Blue Jays.

Senior Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) battled through the day's most competitive match, rallying after dropping the first set to win 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5), sealing the sweep for USJ, 7-0.

The Blue Jays hit the road for the final time in the 2025 regular season, traveling to Western New England University for a CNE match on Thursday, Oct. 23. First serve against the Golden Bears at the Forest Park Tennis Courts in Springfield, Mass., is set for 3 p.m.
