Women's Tennis Falls on the Road at Roger Williams Thursday
BRISTOL, R.I. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team dropped a tough Conference of New England (CNE) matchup on the road against Roger Williams University (RWU), 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Roger Williams Tennis Courts in Bristol, R.I. With the result, the Blue Jays fell to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in conference play, while the Hawks improved to 12-0 on the season and 7-0 in CNE play.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) and junior Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) battled at No. 3 doubles, but were topped by Palmieri/Petroniro, 6–0.

Junior Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.) and senior Allie Long (East Hartford, Conn.) fell to Pecora/Mancini, 6–0, at No. 2 doubles as Roger Williams took control of the lone doubles point.

Sophomore Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) and senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) fought hard at No. 1 doubles but came up short against Abarca/Bache, 6–4.

Long took part at No. 5 singles, dropping her match to Palmieri, 6–0, 6–1, establishing a 2-0 edge for the Hawks.

Alvarez was topped by Mancini at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6–1, 6–1, giving RWU a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks secured the match victory at No. 6 singles as Milo fell to Petroniro, 6–1, 6–1.

Sophomore Carolina Mancini (Manchester, Conn.) battled at No. 4 singles, but came up short against Bache, 6–0, 6–2, increasing the deficit to 5-0.

Garcia featured at No. 2 singles, dropping a straight set decision to Pecora, 6–0, 6–1, as the Hawks increased the gap to 6-0.

Rossetti earned the Blue Jays' lone point at No. 1 singles, rallying from a set down to defeat Abarca in a thrilling three-set match, 0–6, 7–5, 1-0 (10–6), and see the final score end 6-1 for RWU.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to CNE play this weekend against Curry College on Saturday, Oct. 18. Opening serve against the Colones at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts in Milton, Mass., is set for 11 a.m.
