Women's Tennis Falls at Gordon Saturday
WENHAM, Mass. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Gordon College (Gordon) Saturday afternoon during Conference of New England (CNE) play at the Brigham Athletic Complex in Wenham, Mass. With the result, the Blue Jays dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in CNE play, while the Scots improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in conference matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Seniors Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn.) opened the match at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-1.
- Junior Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.) and senior Allie Long (East Hartford, Conn.) featured at No. 2 doubles, but succumbed to a 6-2 decision, as Gordon secured the lone doubles point.
- Junior Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) and senior Bernae Webb (Bridgeport, Conn.) played at No. 3 doubles, dropping the match 6-2 to the Scots.
- Garcia began the singles portion of the match at No. 1 singles, falling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, as Gordon extended the gap to 2-0.
- Sophomore Carolina Mancini (Manchester, Conn.) was the next to finish at No. 3 singles, dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision to see the Scots increase the disadvantage to 3-0.
- The Scots secured the match victory at No. 4 singles, as Long suffered a 6-1, 6-2, defeat.
- Milo battled at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-0, as Gordon increased their lead to 5-0.
- Alvarez would drop her match at No. 2 singles, 6-1,6-1, before Gardella succumbed to a 6-1, 6-4 defeat at No. 6 singles, as Gordon took home the 7-0 victory.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for a CNE match against Suffolk University on Tuesday, October 14. Opening serve against the Rams at the Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex is set for 3:00 p.m.
