Women's Tennis Named ITA All-Academic Team, Nine Blue Jays Receive Scholar-Athlete Distinction
TEMPE Ariz. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team was recognized by the International Tennis Association (ITA), earning All-Academic Team distinction for the 2024-25 academic year. In addition, nine members of the team were named Division III Women's ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2024-25 academic year, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday, July 23. Seniors Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.), juniors Gia Alvarez (Meriden, Conn,), Liliana Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Alexandra Long (East Hartford, Conn.), sophomores Nina Gardella (Lebanon, Conn.) and Jillian Milo (Southington, Conn.), and freshmen Carolina Mancini (Manchester, Conn.) and Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) earned Scholar-Athlete designation for the Blue Jays.
In order to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the USJ women's tennis program had to meet the following requirements:
- Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
- All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
- All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, Hardy, Santoro, Alvarez, Garcia, Long, Gardella, Milo, Mancini and Rossetti had to meet the following requirements:
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
- Be listed on the institutional eligibility form
Overall, 1,269 Division III woen's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 165 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
