Santoro, Rossetti Collect GNAC Women's Tennis Weekly Awards
WINTHROP, Mass. – Graduate student Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman Maddie Rossetti (Hamden, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team were named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player fo the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference front office on Tuesday afternoon in its second weekly report of the 2024 season. The honor marks the first time that Santoro earned a weekly accolade for the conferece, and the second conseuctive rookie of the week nod for Rossetti.
Santoro had a perfect week on the court for the Blue Jays, guiding the team to a 3-0 record after posting victories in all six matches that she played in. She started the week by going 2-0 against rivals Albertus Magnus College to open GNAC play, winning 8-2 at No. 1 doubles before posting a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles. Santoro continued her dominate week against intrastate foes Western Connecticut, posting a 8-3 victory in doubles and a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Santoro rounded out her perfect week at Curry, winning at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, before posting a 6-2, 6-0 straight set victory at No. 1 singles. She currently boasts a 3-1 singles record and a similar mark in doubles play.
Rossetti continues to shine in her debut season, posting a perfect 6-0 record on the week, winning all three of her doubles and singles matches. Playing alongside Santoro at No. 1 doubles in all three matches, she posted a 8-2 victory against Albertus Magnus, a 8-3 win at Western Connecticut, and a 6-2 win against Curry. Rossetti has also continued to be stellar in singles play, first by securing a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against the Falcons. Then, she continued her perfect start to the year by winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against the Wolves. Rossetti rounded out the week with another impressive outing, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Curry. This season, Rossetti is a perfect 8-0, posting a 4-0 record in doubles play and a 4-0 record in singles action.
