Kerr Named GNAC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior Emily Kerr (Portland, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its second weekly report of the 2022 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Kerr and the first for the USJ women's tennis team this season.

OFFICIAL GNAC RELEASE

Kerr, an All-GNAC Second Team selection in 2021, has picked up right where she left off and gotten off to a great start in 2022. In the opening week of action for the Blue Jays, Kerr logged an unblemished week winning all four of her matches in convincing fashion.

The Portland product opened the season on Wednesday with a victory at No. 1 doubles alongside junior teammate Kathleen Gilland (Wethersfield, Conn.) and defeated Western Connecticut's duo, 8-2. She followed that up with a triumph at No. 2 singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 en route to a season-opening 6-3 victory for the Blue Jays over the Wolves.

Then on Saturday at Eastern Nazarene in USJ's GNAC opener, Kerr continued her dominant week with a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, and a victory at No. 2 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 over ENC's Jenna Schlosser. Kerr factored in both points for the Blue Jays in a 7-2 setback to the Lions in their conference opener.

In total on the week, Kerr dropped just six games over four sets in her two singles matches. It marks the first GNAC Player of the Week nod for the women's tennis program since Rebecca Mauri earned the honor on September 14, 2015.
