Women's Tennis Drops Season-Opening Match, 9-0
PROVIDENCE, R.I – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Rhode Island College (RIC), in its season opener Friday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Complex.
It was the first official tennis match for the Blue Jays in nearly two years (Regis in the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals), and the first-ever meeting between the teams. The Anchorwomen got off to a great start, sweeping all three doubles matches, before clinching the contest in number five singles. Junior captain Emily Kerr (Portland, Conn.), and junior Elaina Griffiths (Guilford, Conn.) scored two points in an 8-2 No. 1 Doubles loss, as did sophomores Kathleen Gilland (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Ananya Srivatsav (South Windsor, Conn.). Srivatsav was the high scorer for USJ, scoring two points in her first set of singles, and two in doubles.

COACH QUOTE [Karen Piazza] "This was a really tough match, but there's no question that the girls fought for each point. They were figuring out how to change up their games as the matches went on when things weren't working. The good thing is that it will prepare us for some tougher matches later on this season."
