Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Second at GNAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team set a new freshman record in the 200-yard IM event as the Blue Jays concluded 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass. Sunday night, finishing in second place after tallying 699.5 points across the three-day meet.


TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 100 Yard Freestyle - Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in eighth place, recording a time of 1:02.95.
  • 100 Yard Backstroke - Freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) finished in a tie for fifth place after tallying a time of 1:06.80.
  • 200 Yard Butterfly - Sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) won the event for the Blue Jays, posting an impressive time of 2:28.76.
  • 200 Yard IM - Omar set a new freshman record in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 2:20.40.
  • 400 Yard Medley Relay - The team of Wysocka, Niemczyk, Omar, and sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) finished in third place, combining for a time of 4:25.96.
  • 1,650 Yard Freestyle - Poltronieri topped the timing sheet for the Blue Jays, finishing in seventh after posting a time of 20:43.25.
  • 3 Meter Diving - Junior Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) finished in second place with a total score of 160.5 points while junior Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) captured third place after posting a total score of 139.75 points.
