Women's Swimming & Diving Ranks Second After Second Day of GNAC Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued the 2026 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships on Saturday, finishing with 467 points to sit in second place after the second day of action inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass.


TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Freestyle Relay - The team of senior Julianna Violette (Rocky HIll, Conn.), sophomore Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) finished in fourth, combining for a time of 1:53.61.
  • 500 Yard Freestyle - Freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.) continued to build off her record breaking performance in day one, finishing in first place with a time of 5:29.52.
  • 50 Yard Backstroke - Sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) finished in second, touching the wall in 30.24 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Freestyle - Towey finished in fifth place after tallying a time of 28.36 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Niemczyk paced the Blue Jays in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 2:35.86.
  • 100 Yard IM - Freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) finished in third place, tallying a time of 1:06.51. 
  • 800 Yard Freestyle Relay - The team of Omar, Niemczyk, Poltronieri, and Wysocka broke the school record for the event, finishing in second place after combining for an impressive time of 8:45.88.
  • 1 Meter Diving - Junior Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) topped the scoring sheet for the Blue Jays, finishing in second place after recording a total score of 284.70 points.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays conclude the GNAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, February 9. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. inside the WPI Sports & Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass., with finals beginning at roughly 5:00 p.m.
