Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to ECSU During Senior Day on Saturday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming & diving team saw their 2025-26 regular season home slate come to a close Saturday afternoon, dropping a dual meet to Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), 202-77, inside the Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford, Conn. The match also served as senior day for the Blue Jays, as the USJ Department of Athletics honored seniors Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.) prior to the opening event.


TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay - The team of freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.) finished in fourth, combining for a time of 2:09.38.
  • 1,000 Yard Freestyle - Poltronieri paced the Blue Jays, coming in fourth place after recording a time of 13:12.92.
  • 200 Yard Freestyle - Omar recorded a second place finish, tallying a time of 2:05.95.
  • 100 Yard Backstroke - Sophomore Ella MacKenzie (Southington, Conn.) finished in fourth with a time of 1:24.24.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Violette came in fourth place, finishing with a time of 1:25.70.
  • 200 Yard Butterfly - Niemczyk came in second, posting a final time of 2:37.27.
  • 50 Yard Freestyle - Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) paced USJ, finishing in fourth after recording a time of 30.46 seconds.
  • 1 Mtr Diving - Junior Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) recorded first place finishes in both the diving events, earning total scores of 132.40 points in the first event and 169.25 points in the second. 
  • 100 Yard Freestyle - Towey finished in fourth, touching the wall in 1:06.97.
  • 200 Yard Backstroke - MacKenzie placed fourth, recording a time of 3:02.52.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Niemczyk continued her strong day, winning the event for the Blue Jays after posting a time of 2:47.02.
  • 500 Yard Freestyle - Poltronieri finished in third after tallying a time of 6:17.62.
  • 100 Yard Butterfly - Omar came in third place, finishing with a time of 1:07.02.
  • 100 Yard IM - Omar finished third after posting a time of 1:10.86.
  • 200 Yard Freestyle Relay - The team of sophomores Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.), Niemczyk, Poltronieri, and Towey finished in third, combining for a time of 1:59.99. 

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays round out the 2025-26 regular season on the road at Gordon College on Saturday, January 24. The dual meet against the Fighting Scots inside the Bennett Center Natatorium in Wenham, Mass., is set for 1:00 p.m.
