Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Fifth at Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued her record breaking 2025 campaign. She set new program freshman records in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard IM while also breaking the program record for the 400 yard IM as the Blue Jays rounded out the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University, Saturday inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. USJ tallied a final score of 268 to finish in fifth, besting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Albertus Magnus College and Elms College.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- 200 Yard Free - Omar set a new program freshman record in the event, finishing in a time of 2:03.62 for 19th place.
- 400 IM - Omar set a new program record in the event, recording a time of 4:55.04 to place 6th.
- 100 Yard Breast - Sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.) paced the Blue Jays, finishing in 15th with a time of 1:18.76.
- 100 Yard Back – Freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) led USJ with a 20th place finish after tallying a time of 1:08.50.
- 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of junior Izzy Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and sophomores Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.), Ella Mackenzie (Southington, Conn.), and Carolyn Capel (East Haddam, Conn.) finished in 18th place, posting a time of 2:33.27.
- 200 Yard Back - Omar finished in 12th place, touching the wall in a time of 2:20.66.
- 100 Yard Free - Omar topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in 21st after posting a time of 57.25 seconds.
- 200 Yard Breast - Niemczyk finished in 16th after recording a time of 2:45.26.
- 400 Yard Free Relay - The team of Omar, Wysocka, Niemczyk, and Towey finished in 18th place, posting a time of 4:08.18.
UP NEXT
The Blue Jays take the rest of December off before heading to Florida for their annual training trip. USJ will head to Deerfield Beach, Fla., from January 2 through January 8.
