Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at Friday Night Sprints

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued the 2025-26 campaign Friday night, taking part in the Friday Night Sprints, hosted by Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) at the Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, Conn. The Blue Jays competed against the Division I Blue Devils as well as the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) placed third, combining for a time of 2:08.48.
  • 200 Yard Free – Omar paced the team, finishing in fourth place after recording a time of 2:04.47.
  • 50 Yard Back - Wysocka led the Blue Jays, recording a fourth place finish with a time of 32.07 seconds. 
  • 50 Yard Free – Poltronieri led USJ, finishing fourth after touching the wall in 29.65 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Fly - Omar was the lone Blue Jay competing in the event, finishing sixth with a time of 29.21 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Breast - Niemczyk would come in fourth place, finishing with a time of 1:18.90.
  • 100 Yard Back - Poltronieri paced the team, finishing in third with a time of 1:12.30.
  • 100 Yard Free -  Niemczyk led the way for USJ, finshing second with a time of 1:03.28.
  • 100 Yard IM – Wysocka recorded a fifth place finish, touching the wall in 1:10.69.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay - The team of Wysocka, Niemczyk, Poltronieri, and Omar finished in third, combining for a time of 1:55.74.
  • Diving Relay - The team of senior Lili Garcia (Wethersfield, Conn.) and juniors Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) and Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) placed third, combining for a total score of 154.3.

UP NEXT 

The Blue Jays return to the pool next on Friday, December 5, when they travel to Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. for the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships. The start time of the event is TBA.
