Women's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Albertus Magnus and Plymouth State Friday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team swept a home double dual meet, defeating Plymouth State University and Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Albertus Magnus College Friday evening inside Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford, Conn. The Blue Jays bested the Falcons by a score of 181-35 and the Panthers, 156-103.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), and freshman Julia Wysocka (Farmington, Conn.) won the event, combining for a time of 2:05.43.
  • 1000 Yard Free – Poltronieri paced USJ in the event, finishing in third after touching the wall in a time 13:23.37. Junior Brenna Plaziak (East Greenwich, R.I.) would come in fifth with a time of 15:54.48.
  • 200 Yard Free – Omar would win the event and break a 26-year-old USJ freshman record, posting an impressive time of 2:05.81.
  • 50 Yard Back - Wysocka finished in second place for the Blue Jays, posting a time of 31.74 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke - Junior Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished with a time of 41.81 seconds, good enough for second place in the event.
  • 100 Yard Butterfly - Niemczyk won the event for USJ, posting a first place time of 1:07.28.
  • 50 Yard Free – Wysocka added another win for the Blue Jays, finishing first in the event with a time of 27.34 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Free – Wysocka continued her winning ways, coming in first with a time of 1:03.33. Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) would finish close behind Wysocka in second place with a time of 1:09.54.
  • 100 Yard Back - Sophomore Carolyn Capel (East Haddam, Conn.) came in second place for USJ, recording a time of 1:28.59.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Niemczyk would finish in second with a time of 1:19.38, while Castrillo took home fourth place with a time of 1:30.49.
  • 50 Yard Butterfly - Omar won her second event, posting a time of 29.62 seconds.
  • 100 Yard IM - Omar continued to dominate, winning the event with a time of 1:08.84.
  • 500 Yard Free – Poltronieri paced USJ, finishing in second place with a time of 6:23.38.
  • 1 Meter Diving - Juniors Kira Geigier (Watertown, Conn.) and Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) competed in the event. Geiger posted a score of 129.00 points, while Simoes would finish with 118.80 points.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay - The team of Plaziak, Towey, Capel, and sophomore Ella MacKenzie (Southington, Conn.) came in second in the event, combining for a time of 2:16. 83.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays head on the road, traveling to Bridgeport University in Bridgeport, Conn. for a meet on Saturday, November 8. Held inside the UB Aquatics Center, the meet is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
