Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Regis to Begin 2025-26 Season

WESTON, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team opened its 2025-26 season with a loss Saturday afternoon, falling to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis College (Regis), 163.5-125.5, in a dual meet inside Regis Pool in Weston, Mass. 

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay - The team of sophomore Charlotte Poltronieri (Enfield, Conn.), freshman Sara Omar (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Alina Niemczyk (Vernon, Conn.), and sophomore Peyton Tyler (Killingworth, Conn.) lost a tight race, combining for a time of 2:06.19. Regis took the event, finishing with a time of 2:05.50.
  • 1000 Yard Free - Sophomore Delaney Towey (West Hartford, Conn.) paced the Blue Jays, finishing in third with a time of 14:53.52. Junior Brenna Plaziak (East Greenwich, R.I.) finished with a time of 15:36.73, good for fourth place of the event.
  • 200 Yard Free - USJ captured the second, third, and fourth spots in the event. Omar finished second with a time of 2:05.90, senior Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.) received a time of 2:28.23 for third, and Tyler clocked in with a time of 2:20.69 for fourth.
  • 50 Yard Back - Poltronieri won the event for the Blue Jays, finishing first with a time of 32.86 seconds.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke - Junior Isabella Castrillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) placed third, touching the wall with a time of 40.19 seconds.
  • 100 Yard Fly - Omar continued her strong debut, winning the event with a time of 1:06.38.
  • 50 Yard Free - Tyler continued her srong performace, finishing second with a time of 31.73 seconds. Towney was not far behind her in third, finishing with a time of 32.56 seconds, while sophomore Ella Mackenzie (Southington, Conn.) finished in fourth with a time of 37.10.
  • 100 Yard Free - Poltronieri continued her strong day, finishing the event in second place with a time of 1:05.10.
  • 100 Yard Back - MacKenzie was the best finisher in fourth place for USJ with a time of 1:26.52.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke - Violette touched the wall in second place with a time of 1:26.66, just four seconds off first, while sophomore Carolyn Capel (East Haddam, Conn.) finished in fifth with a time of 1:30.13.
  • 500 Yard Free - Omar dominated for the Blue Jays, winning the event with an impressive time of 5:42.77.
  • 50 Yard Fly - Niemczyk won the event after touching the wall in 30.10 seconds.
  • 1 Meter Diving - Junior Kira Geiger (Watertown, Conn.) came in second for USJ, finishing with a score of 163.20 points. Junior Sophia Simoes (Watertown, Conn.) placed third with a score of 147.20 points.
  • 100 Yard IM - Niemczyk continued her winning ways, coming in first for the Blue Jays with a time of 1:12.58, with Poltronieri not finishing far behind her in second, recording a time of 1:15.84.
  • 200 Yard Free Relay - The team of Capel, Plaziak, Towey, and Violette finished second in the event, combining for a time of 2:16:51.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays make their 2025-26 home debut on Friday, Oct. 17, hosting the annual Blue Jay Pentathlon. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. inside Bruyette Natatorium in West Hartford, Conn.
