Women's Swimming & Diving In Fourth Place After Day Two of GNAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team continued its fantastic start to the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championships on Saturday, finishing with 343 points to sit in fourth place. Sophomore Gabriela Targonska (Newington, Conn.) brought home the lone medal on the day for the Blue Jays.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of Targonska and Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.), and freshmen Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) finished in fifth place, combining for a time of 1:51.60.
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Senior Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) nearly missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth place after posting a time of 1:11.17.
  • 500 Yard Free –Mamica paced the Blue Jays, finishing in sixth place after posting a time of 6:02.27, while junior Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.) trailed closely behind, coming in seventh after touching the wall in a time of 6:03.78.
  • 50 Yard Free – Targonska recorded an eighth-place finish, posting a time of 27.27 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Backstroke – Targonska finished in fourth place, recording a time of 2:24.94
  • 100 Yard IM – Targonska continued her strong day, bringing home the bronze medal after posting a time of 1:07.26. Violette finished in eighth place, posting a time of 1:11.98.
  • 400 Yard Free Relay – The team of Violette, sophomore Emily Beyer (Prospect, Conn.), Marcille and Targonska finished in fourth place, combining for a time of 9:17.92.
  • 1 Meter Diving – Freshman Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) nearly missed out on the podium, coming in fourth place after tallying a score of 270.60.

UP NEXT
The Blue Jays wrap up the GNAC Championships tomorrow morning. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. inside the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.
