Women's Swimming & Diving Places Seventh in Connecticut Cup

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming and diving team finished in seventh place in the Connecticut Cup after totaling 71 points across the two-day competition. Hosted by Wesleyan University, the two-day event took place inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of Julianna Violette (Rocky Hill, Conn.), Gabriela Targonska (Newington, Conn.) Amy Mamica (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Angelina Bernardi (Middlebury, Conn.) finished in 20th, posting a time of 1:50.98.
  • 500 Yard Free – Mamica paced the Blue Jays in the event, finishing in 38th with a time of 6:08.00.
  • 200 Yard IM – Targonska was the top USJ swimmer, placing 32nd in a time of 2:31.63
  • 50 Yard Free – Bernardi was the lone Blue Jay in the event, touching the wall in a time of 29.98 to finish 56th.
  • 1 Meter Diving – Chandler Douglas (North Haven, Conn.) finished in ninth after posting 135.85 points
  • 400 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Targonska, Mamica, Morgan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) and Violette recorded a time of 4:44.57
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Mamica recorded the top time for USJ, posting a time of 1:09.32 to finish 37th.
  • 400 Yard IM – Beebe was the lone Blue Jay, touching the wall in a time of 6:07.62.
  • 200 Yard Free – Mamica topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing 32nd with a time of 2:14.45.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Bernardi was to sole USJ participant, recording a time of 1:28.52
  • 100 Yard Backstroke – Targonaska paced the Blue Jays in the event, finishing in 33rd with a time of 1:07.36.
  • 3 Meter Diving – Douglas tallied 102.35 points in her debut in the three meter diving event.
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Violette, Mamica, Targonska, and Bernardi placed 26th in a time of 2:08.95.
  • 1650 Yard Free – Adelina Marcille (Waterford, Conn.) paced USJ in the event, finishing in 15th after posting a time of 21:28.57.
  • 200 Yard Backstroke – Targonska lead the Blue Jays, coming in 24th after posting a time of 2:26.16.
  • 100 Yard Free – Mamica paced USJ in the event, finishing in a time of 1:00.45 to finish 39th.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Mamica lead the way again for USJ, placing 19th with a time of 2:51.54
  • 200 Yard Butterfly - Beebe was the lone Blue Jay swimmer, recording a time of 3:00.93
  • 400 Yard Free Relay - The team of Targonska, Violette, Bernardi and Mamica finished in 24th after posting a time of 4:12.11.

UP NEXT 

The Blue Jays have a few weeks off for the winter break before embarking on their yearly trip to Deerfield Beach, Fla. for winter training. Training will run from January 3-10. USJ returns to competition on Saturday, January 14 against Clark and Trinity in a double dual meet, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
