Women's Swim & Dive Battles Back On Day Three Of NEISDA Championship

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's swimming & diving team sits in 12th out of 14 schools through day three of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving (NEISDA) Championships, held at the Tootell Aquatics Center in Kingston, R.I. on Saturday evening.

Senior captain Shelby Cios (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led the charge for the Blue Jays once again, claiming a top-15 swim out of 22 swimmers in the 100 Breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:14.05, earning 12 points, and finishing just over a second and a half away from the top 10. Meanwhile, freshman Gabriela Targonska (Newington, Conn.) made it two solid days in a row in her first-ever New England Collegiate meet, placing 17th of a deep, 32-competitor field in the 100 Backstroke in 1:06.50. The Blue Jays also placed 12th in the B Final of the 200 Free Relay to score 30 team points.

The Blue Jays are currently 12th overall of 14 schools in a highly-competitive regional event. However, they are still in touch with 11th-placed Saint Joe's Maine which is 56 points ahead. Roger Williams is currently well-out in front with 1,458 points, followed by Stonehill College (706.5), and Norwich University (558.5). 14 members of the USJ swim & dive teams qualified for this year's NEISDA Championships (nine on the men's side, five on the women's side).
