Women's Soccer Drops GNAC Contest on the Road to Emmanuel Saturday Afternoon

BOSTON — The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team lost a 4-0 decision to Emmanuel College on the road in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston. With the result, the Blue Jays fell to 2-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GNAC on the season, while the Saints improved to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the GNAC.

Emmanuel's Annebel Balogh de Galantha struck early, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the 15th minute to make it 1-0 Saints. Emmanuel quickly doubled their first half lead as Paige Letourneau would add an unassisted goal in the 18th minute.

It wasn't until early in the second half that the home side boosted their lead to 3-0. Letourneau nearly scored again after a cross in on a corner kick, but her attempt hit the post, ricocheting to Libby Tennant, who reacted quickly to the rebound and tapped it into the net. Sarah Dullaghan closed out the scoring in the 69th minute, cashing in on another penalty kick opportunity, making it 4-0.

USJ struggled to generate offense against the Saints' backline, not registering a shot throughout the contest. Emmanuel controlled the pace and possession throughout, outshooting the Blue Jays 29-0 overall, including 17-0 in shots on target. The home team also held an edge in corner kicks, 12-2.

USJ's junior goalkeeper Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.) set a career high, finishing with 13 saves in the setback.
