Zup Tabbed GNAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior midfielder Jenna Zup (Berlin, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's soccer team was tabbed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference front office on Monday afternoon in its second weekly report of the 2023 season. It marks the first career GNAC weekly honor for Zup and the first for the USJ women's soccer team this year.

OFFICIAL GNAC RELEASE

Zup netted four goals for an eight-point week to help the Blue Jays to a 2-1-0 record over three games in the first full week of the 2023 campaign, en route to picking up her first career GNAC Player of the Week nod. All four of Zup's goals came in GNAC contests to power USJ to a 2-0-0 start in league play, marking the first time the Blue Jays have started 2-0-0 in GNAC action since 2017.

Trailing at two separate points in their GNAC opener at home on Tuesday versus intrastate rival Albertus Magnus, Zup found the equalizer twice for the Blue Jays, scoring USJ's first goal of the year on a PK in the 53rd minute to make it 1-1. The Berlin product then leveled the game at 2-2 in the 81st minute with a beautiful goal off a perfectly placed free kick. Zup's brace helped power the Blue Jays to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Falcons.

The two-time All-GNAC midfielder followed that up with her second two-goal outing of the week, scoring what would be the eventual game-winner with a diving header in the 14th minute, before tacking on an insurance goal for USJ in the 52nd minute in a 5-1 triumph over New England College at home on Saturday.

UP NEXT

Zup and the women's soccer team will look to keep it rolling when it returns to action next on Wednesday, September 14 for its first road contest of the 2023 season, traveling to newcomer to the GNAC, Mitchell College. Kickoff of the intrastate conference match between the Blue Jays and Mariners is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Field in New London, Conn.
