Women’s Lacrosse Sees Seven‑Game Win Streak Snapped at Saint Joseph’s on Saturday

STANDISH, Maine – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team saw its seven‑game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 18–7 to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the SJC Athletics Complex.
 
With the loss, the Blue Jays dropped to 10–6 overall and 9–3 in conference play, while the Monks extended their winning streak to 12 games and improved to 13–3 overall and a perfect 12–0 in the GNAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter. USJ stayed within striking distance early, as freshman attack Kailey Krusewski (Newington, Conn.) scored at the 13:20 mark and junior attack Anna LeGault (Colchester, Conn) added a free‑position goal later in the period, but the Monks carried a 7–3 advantage after one.

The Monks continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, outscoring USJ 4–1 to take an 11–4 lead into halftime. Krusewski scored the lone Blue Jay goal of the frame on a player‑up opportunity with 3:35 remaining.

Saint Joseph's pulled away in the third quarter with six unanswered goals, extending its lead to 17–4 entering the final 15 minutes.

USJ showed fight in the fourth, scoring three goals in the final nine minutes. LeGault netted a player‑up goal at the 8:29 mark before adding another tally at 3:08, and Krusewski closed the scoring with 1:47 remaining, but the Monks secured the 18–7 victory.


INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Krusewski led the Blue Jays with three goals, giving her 61 goals on the season.
  • LeGault finished with three goals and one assist, increasing her season total to 56 goals.
  • Senior midfielder Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.) added a shorthanded goal for USJ.
  • Junior midfielder Paige Rieger (New Fairfield, Conn.) recorded two assists.

As a team, USJ was outshot 44–20 and held a 38–15 disadvantage in shots on goal. Saint Joseph's also controlled the draw circle, 21–6, and held a 36–15 edge in ground balls.

In goal, senior Colleen Stringer (Point Lookout, N.Y.) made 15 saves in 31:42 of action. Freshman Abigail Hubbard (Billings, Mont.) and sophomore Erika Horne (Killingly, Conn.) also saw time in net, combining for five additional saves.


UP NEXT

The Blue Jays return home for their 2026 regular‑season finale on Wednesday, April 22, hosting Emmanuel College in GNAC action. Opening draw at the USJ Lacrosse Field in West Hartford, Connecticut, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
