Rufo, LeGault Collect GNAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – Graduate student midfielder Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Anna LeGault (Colchester, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team were named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the conference front office Monday evening in its ninth weekly report of the 2024 season. It marked the first GNAC Player of the Week honor for Rufo in her career and the fourth GNAC Rookie of the Week nod for LeGault. The awards are the seventh and eighth weekly conference recognitions for the Blue Jays this season.

Rufo showed out on both sides of the field for the Blue Jays this past week en route to earning her first career GNAC Player of the Week award. Rufo started the week off with six goals and an assist for seven points in an 18-3 conference victory over Lasell at home on Tuesday. She registered an 80.0 percent shot on goal percentage and also won 11 draw controls in the win. The Pittsfield, Mass. native then followed that up against Elms with a hat trick and four assists for another seven points, including her 200th career point, in an 18-7 triumph at home over the Blazers on Saturday. On the defensive side, she caused six turnovers for the Blue Jays in another GNAC victory, which set a new program record for wins in a season, as USJ is now 11-4 overall in 2024. Overall, the graduate student totaled 14 points (nine goals, five assists), collected seven ground balls, won 18 draw controls, and caused seven turnovers in an undefeated week.

LeGault provided steady offense for the Blue Jays in undefeated conference play this past week. She found the back of the net four times for four points in the 18-3 win over Lasell at home on Tuesday. LeGault proceeded to follow that up against Elms, collecting seven points off five goals and two assists in the 18-7 victory over the Blazers at home on Saturday. Overall on the week, the Colchester, Conn. product put up 11 points via nine goals and two assists to help pace the Blue Jays to their fourth-straight victory entering the final week of the regular season.

Rufo, LeGault and the Blue Jays return to action next on Tuesday, April 23 for their 2024 regular-season finale at GNAC opponent Regis College. The opening draw between the Blue Jays and Pride is set for 7:00 p.m. at Regis Stadium in Weston, Mass.
