Women's Lacrosse Falls On The Road To Bard Wednesday, 19-6
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's lacrosse team could not overcome a first-half deficit on the road, and ultimately dropped a non-conference match to the Raptors of Bard College, 19-6, at the Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex Wednesday evening.
GAME INFORMATION
Score: Saint Joseph 6, Bard 19
Records: USJ (0-2), Bard (1-0)
Location: Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex | Annandale-On-Hudson, N.Y.
Freshman attack Sarah Child (Riverton, Utah) was the high-scorer on the day with six goals in total, including two of the first three for the Raptors. The Blue Jays were led by senior midfielder Jenna Banta (Montville, Conn.), who scored four goals after her three-goal performance in the season opener. Banta has now scored three-plus goals in consecutive games for the first time in her career, and has now hit 50 career goals with her fourth marker in the contest Wednesday night.
Saint Joseph and Banta did all they could, as Banta scored a goal in all four periods, but the Raptors were too vicious in this one, scoring 15 of their 19 in the first half to take a commanding, 15-2, lead into the break. USJ clamped down defensively in the second half, but it was too little too late, as Bard managed to split with USJ scoring wise in the third and fourth periods, mantaining the double-digit lead.
COACH QUOTE [Karen Nell]
"The team got off to a slow start and Bard capitalized on us. Second half the defense settled in and pressured the ball more consistently. The attack had a difficult time finding their rhythm tonight."
