Emmanuel Tops USJ 21-10 in Lacrosse

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team scored a 21-10 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at Roberto Clemente Field.

Emmanuel improved to 4-2 on the year (1-2 GNAC) and the loss dropped the Blue Jays to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Sophomore Dayna Gambino (Newington, Conn.) and freshman Eliza Doane (Suffield, Conn.) scored three goals apiece to lead Saint Joseph. Erika Leitao (Southington, Conn.) scored twice for the Blue Jays and Rachel Foster (Newington, Conn.) and Francesca Mastria (Higganum, Conn.) had one apiece.

Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) scored a game-high five goals for Emmanuel and the Saints went ahead 12-4 in the first half. The Blue Jays had their most successful run early in the second half. Doane had two goals in a 5-1 run that enabled USJ to trim a nine-goal deficit to 14-9 with 12:57 remaining. But Emmanuel scored four times in the next three minutes to seal the outcome.

St. Joseph hosts Norwich, Mon. April 1 at 4 p.m.
