Fudge Named to NEWBA Team Of The Week
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior guard Amanda Fudge (Middletown, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women's basketball team was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Second-Team for the opening week of the season, it was announced by association officials on Wednesday. The first weekly accolades of the 2022-23 season included games played between Nov. 8 through Nov. 13. It marks the first career weekly NEWBA honor for Fudge, who has opened up the 2022-23 season with a bang as the Blue Jays sport a perfect 3-0 record.
Fudge powered the Blue Jays to a perfect 2-0 start in the opening week of the season, guiding the Blue Jays to a second-consecutive USJ Tip-Off Tournament title, defeating Bard on Nov. 11, and Lehman on Nov. 12. The senior guard was on a tear in the opening weekend, being named the MVP of the Tip-Off Tournament. Fudge led all scorers against Bard, dropping 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. She followed up her incredible shooting performance with a near triple-double in the championship game against Lehman. Fudge dished out seven assists, while dropping eight points and grabbing eight rebounds. She was also a force defensively, swiping five steals against the Lightning.
