WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Freshman guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.) led six double-digit scorers with 17 points as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team defeated the University of Saint Joseph 98-53 Wednesday evening at the Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.
Eastern, which has won five in a row, improved to 9-3; St. Joseph is 6-6. The game was the second meeting between the schools, with USJ winning 67-40 last year.
Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points for St. Joseph. Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) scored 10 for the Blue Jays and Shauna Sullivan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had eight.
Eastern shot 60 percent (36-for-60) from the field and made 11 of 18 three-pointers (61 percent). The Warriors outrebounded USJ, 53-25. Eastern's Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, MA) had 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and sophomore Brianna Leonard (Amherst, MA) had 15 points and ten rebounds.
St. Joseph next plays at Rivier as it opens play in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, Saturday Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
