Softball Splits Regular‑Season Finale Against Rivier on Saturday
GAME ONE | USJ 3, RIVIER 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

After two scoreless innings to open the game, sophomore outfielder Lorynes Suriel (Lynn, Mass.) opened the scoring with a single through the right side. An error by the Raiders' right fielder allowed junior infielder Jennifer Antonowicz (Wolcott, Conn.) and freshman infielder Gracie Browne (Bristol, Conn.) to score, giving USJ a 2–0 lead.

Junior outfielder Rachel Brewer‑Karimi (Torrington, Conn.) followed in the next at‑bat, slashing an RBI double down the left‑field line to extend the advantage to 3–0.

Senior pitcher Analise Escarraman (Windham, Conn.) continued to shut down the Rivier offense, preserving the three‑run edge through the middle innings.

The Raiders pushed across one run in the bottom of the seventh, but could not get any closer as USJ held on for the 3–1 victory.

- Five different Blue Jays recorded hits in the opener.

- Escarraman earned the complete‑game win, improving to 8–3, after allowing one unearned run on eight hits while striking out seven.
GAME TWO | USJ 7, RIVIER 8 (EIGHT INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED

USJ struck first in the opening inning as sophomore infielder Gabby Marichal (Lynn, Mass.) delivered an RBI single to bring home Suriel, giving the Blue Jays a 1–0 lead.

Rivier quickly answered in the bottom half, scoring three runs to take a 3–1 advantage.

The Blue Jays responded in the second inning with a four‑run frame. Antonowicz sparked the rally with a two‑run single before senior Kaitlyn Ouellette (Wolcott, Conn.) followed with an RBI single to put USJ in front, 5–3.

Rivier regained momentum in the fourth inning, plating three runs to reclaim a 6–5 lead.

USJ tied the game in the seventh when sophomore catcher Sadie Girgasky (Bethlehem, Conn.) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring sophomore outfielder Gianna Quaresima (Rocky Hill, Conn.) to knot the score at 6–6.

In the eighth, the Blue Jays pushed back in front as Antonowicz lined a single up the middle to score Browne and give USJ a 7–6 edge.

However, Rivier answered in the bottom of the frame, tying the game on an RBI single before a sacrifice fly brought home the winning run, sealing an 8–7 walk‑off victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Suriel and Ouellette recorded a team‑best three hits apiece.
- Antonowicz finished with two hits and a game‑high three RBI.
- Suriel, Quaresima, and senior outfielder Avianna Ibrahim (Colchester, Conn.) each stole a base.
- Sophomore Brenna Lyver (Enfield, Conn.) made the start, allowing six runs (four unearned) on six hits while striking out one over 3.2 innings.
- Ouellette pitched the final 4.0 innings and took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on two hits while striking out three.
UP NEXT
The South Division No. 2‑seeded Blue Jays open the 2026 GNAC Softball Championship by hosting South Division No. 3 seed Regis College in the opening round of Pod Play on Wednesday, April 29. First pitch against the Pride at the USJ Softball Field in West Hartford, Conn., is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
