Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Fifth at Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Freshman Kyle Januszewski (North Haven, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team continued his strong 2025 rookie campaign. He set new program freshman records in the 200 yard fly and the 100 yard fly as the Blue Jays rounded out the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University, Saturday inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. USJ tallied a final score of 314 to finish in fifth, besting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foes Albertus Magnus College and Elms College.

TOP PERFORMANCES

  • 100 Yard Fly - Januszewski set a new program freshman record in the event, finishing in a time of 56.28 seconds for 14th place.
  • 200 Yard Free - Sophomore Aiden Hebb (Waterbury, Conn.) paced USJ, finishing in 16th place after recording a time of 1:50.99.
  • 100 Yard Breast - Hebb finished in 14th place, tallying a time of 1:02.37.
  • 100 Yard Back – Januszewski recorded a 14th place finish, posting a time of 59.49 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Januszewski, Hebb, freshman Joe Andino (Wethersfield, Conn.), and sophomore Nate Brasky (Madison, Conn.) finished in 13th place with a time of 1:44.64.
  • 1 M Diving - Freshman Henry Pennell (Bellows Falls, Vt.) finished in 4th place with a total score of 147.40 points.
  • 1650 Yard Free - Sophomore Viktor Orzolek (Newington, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, finishing in 10th with a time of 20:32.33.
  • 200 Yard Back -  Sophomore Chris Capen (Wilbraham, Mass.) finished in 9th place, touching the wall in a time of 2:13.91.
  • 100 Yard Free - Brasky topped the timing sheet for USJ, finishing in 27th after posting a time of 53.76 seconds.
  • 200 Yard Breast - Hebb continued his strong day, finishing in 10th after recording a time of 2:16.14.
  • 200 Yard Fly - Januszewski continued his record breaking day, setting another new freshman program record in the event with a 14th place finish and time of 2:16.97.
  • 400 Yard Free Relay - The team of Brasky, Hebb, Januszewski, and and Andino finished in 13th place, posting a time of 3:33.16.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays take the rest of December off before heading to Florida for their annual training trip. USJ will head to Deerfield Beach, Fla., from January 2 through January 8.
