Allo Breaks Numerous School Records, Blue Jays Finish Sixth in Connecticut Cup

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming and diving team finished in sixth place in the Connecticut Cup after totaling 177.5 points across the two-day competition. Hosted by Wesleyan University, the two-day event took place inside the Webster Family Natatorium in Middletown, Conn. Graduate student Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) shattered numerous records on the day, setting a new program best time in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke.

TOP PERFORMANCES 

  • 200 Yard Free Relay – The team of Allo, Maksym Ugrak (Newington, Conn.), Aaron Gauvin (Berlin, Conn.) and Vinnie Carbonell (Berlin, Conn.), finished in 14th place after posting a time of 1:32.82.
  • 500 Yard Free – Allo broke the school record in the event for USJ, placing 16th with a time of 5:04.54.
  • 50 Yard Free – Ugrak paced USJ in the event, touching the wall in a time of 23.25 to finish 32nd.
  • 3 Meter Diving – David Kavanaugh (West Hartford, Conn.) made his debut in the event, tallying 108.55 points
  • 400 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Gauvin, Allo, Ugrak and Carbonell finished in 19th place with a time of 3:54.10.
  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Ugrak topped the timing sheet for USJ, placing 25th with a time of 56.52
  • 400 Yard IM – Brandon Scacca (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, touching the wall in a time of 5:03.24.
  • 200 Yard Free – Gauvin lead the way for USJ, finishing in 31st with a time of 2:01.59.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Allo broke his second school record of the day, finishing in fifth place in a time of 1:01.04
  • 100 Yard Backstroke – Gauvin paced the Blue Jays again, finishing 23rd in a time of 1:04.67.
  • 1 Meter Diving – Kavanaugh finished with 106.55 points in the event.
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Gauvin, Allo, Ugrak and Carbonell recorded a time of 1:45.81 to finish in 20th.
  • 200 Yard Backstroke – Joseph Guerin (Bristol, Conn.) was the lone Blue Jay in the event, recording a time of 2:31.20.
  • 100 Yard Free – Allo paced USJ in the event, finishing in a time of 50.73 to finish 21st.
  • 200 Yard Breaststroke - Allo broke his third school record on the day, besting his previous record with a time of 2:15.07 to finish in eighth.
  • 200 Yard Butterfly - Ugrak lead all Blue Jay swimmers, finishing in 19th with a time of 2:17.49.
  • 400 Yard Free Relay - The team of Ugrak, Gauvin, Carbonell and Allo finished in 20th after recording a time of 3:33.91.

UP NEXT 

The Blue Jays have a few weeks off for the winter break before embarking on their yearly trip to Deerfield Beach, Fla. for winter training. Training will run from January 3-10. USJ returns to competition on Saturday, January 14 against Clark and Trinity in a double dual meet, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
