Men's Swim & Dive Finishes Fifth At 2022 NEISDA Championships
KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's swimming & diving team put together a tremendous weekend as the squad placed fifth overall at the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving (NEISDA) Championships, held at the Tootell Aquatics Center in Kingston, R.I.
Senior captain Jacob Wyse (Broad Brook, Conn.), who led the Blue Jays all weekend, including a gold medal in the 400-yard Individual Medley (IM), was named the Bruce Hutchinson Swimmer of the Meet for his performance in his final career meet this past weekend. The Blue Jays placed fifth as a team with 282 points, edging sixth-placed UVM Club Swimming by five points. Roger Williams, Norwich, and Maine Maritime were the top three finishing institutions in the Men's D3/Club Division.
Wyse swam well again on Sunday in the final day of the four-day meet, finishing in third place in the 100 IM. His time of 55.01 seconds beat out the next three swimmers who were all less than a second behind him. Wyse claimed three medals in total on the weekend (one gold, one silver, one bronze), a first in program history and the first-ever to win multiple medals in the same year.
Junior Maksym Ugrak (Newington, Conn.) was also in top form Sunday with a fifth in the 200 Butterfly (2:08.51), good for 14 points, and a second and a half clear of the next closest swimmer.
