Men's Soccer Drops Regular-Season Finale to Albertus Magnus, 3-1, Wednesday Night
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team closed out the 2025 regular season Wednesday night, falling 3-1 on the road to intrastate and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Albertus Magnus College (Albertus) at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays finished the regular season 10-4-2 overall and 9-1-2 in GNAC play, while the Falcons improved to 8-7-3 and 5-5-2 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albertus struck early and often in the first half. In the seventh minute, Lorenzo Lauria opened the scoring for the Falcons off an assist from Matheus Pimenta, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
- The Falcons doubled their lead less than 15 minutes later, as Aiden Coelho fired home an unassisted strike from the top of the box in the 19th minute to make it 2-0.
- Albertus extended its cushion to 3-0 before the break when Nickolas Korponay finished off a feed from Bennett Walsh in the 42nd minute.
- USJ continued to battle and broke through late, as sophomore midfielder Marshall Melita (Southbury, Conn.) found the back of the net off an assist from classmate Griffin Neal (Waterford, Conn.) in the 88th minute for his first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- However, the Blue Jays could not continue the comeback attempt, as Albertus took home the victory, 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Melita scored his first goal in a USJ uniform.
- Senior goalkeeper Andres Diosa (Cheshire, Conn.) got the start, making two saves in 90 minutes of action.
- USJ outshot Albertus 11-8 overall and tied 5-5 in shots on goal.
- The Blue Jays trailed 5-4 in corner kicks and were whistled for eight fouls.

The Blue Jays will look to get revenge against the Falcons during the GNAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 1. The top-seeded Blue Jays will host the eighth-seeded Falcons for a 1 p.m. kickoff on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn.
