Three-Goal First Half Powers Men's Soccer Past Elms, 3-1, Tuesday Night
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Mario Milardo (Middletown, Conn.) scored twice in the opening half, powering the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team past Elms College (Elms), 3-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday night at Leary Field in Chicopee, Mass. The victory extended the Blue Jays' winning streak to four and their unbeaten run to nine. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 9-3-2 overall and 8-0-2 in GNAC play, remaining unbeaten in conference competition, while the Blazers fell to 6-10-1 and 2-7-1 in the GNAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED

USJ wasted little time getting on the board, as in the eighth minute, Milardo put the visitors ahead 1-0 after finishing a low cross from sophomore midfielder Elis Sulollari (Cheshire, Conn.).

The Blue Jays doubled their advantage in the 22nd minute when sophomore midfielder Landon Coelho (Naugatuck, Conn.) received a feed from senior forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) before rifling a strike into the back of the net from roughly 30 yards out.

Milardo struck again in the 40th minute, tapping home a rebound off an audacious free kick from sophomore midfielder Nico Hamzavi (West Hartford, Conn.) to give USJ a 3-0 halftime lead.

Elms pulled one back in the 87th minute on a penalty kick converted by Jacobo Molina Ferrer, but the Blue Jays' defense stayed firm to close out the win, 3-1.

Milardo recorded his second brace of the season, and third of his career, etending his season goal tally to a team-high nine.

Sophomore goalkeeper Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) played all 90 minutes in net, making three saves to pick up the victory (8-2-2).

UP NEXT
The Blue Jays return to West Hartford for their final home game of the 2025 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 25 against New England College. Kickoff against the Pilgrims at the USJ Soccer Field is set for 5:00 p.m. The matchup will also serve as Senior Day for the the Blue Jays.
