Men's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Draw Against Emmanuel Saturday
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team battled back from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Emmanuel College (Emmanuel) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday afternoon at the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays move to 4-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in GNAC play, while the Saints stand at 3-1-5 overall and 1-1-2 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Emmanuel opened the scoring in the 14th minute after being awarded a penalty. Rafael Matamoros converted from the spot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Jays generated several chances in the first half, including shots from senior forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore midfielder Mario Milardo (Middletown, Conn.), but trailed 1-0 at halftime.

USJ equalized just four minutes into the second half as Ofori fed a perfect through ball to Milardo, who calmly slotted home his fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Will Slayton (Manchester, Conn.) was called on multiple times to preserve the tie, making seven saves on the day, including three in the second half.

Both teams pushed for a late winner, with USJ firing 12 shots in the second half alone, but neither side could find the breakthrough, ending in a 1-1 draw.
