Men's Soccer Trounces Regis, 5-1, at Home Saturday
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's soccer team bounced back with a convincing 5-1 victory against Regis College (Regis) at home in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday afternoon on the USJ Soccer Field in West Hartford, Conn. With the result, the Blue Jays improve to 9-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in conference play while the Pride drop to 1-9-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the GNAC.
KEY MOMENTS
- Regis grabbed the lead inside the opening 15 minutes, as Cade Bretton fed a pass to Nolan McMahon, who turned a fired a curling strike into the left corner, establishing a 1-0 Pride lead.
- The lead did not last long, as a loose ball at the edge of the box fell to senior midfielder Juan Torres (Hartford, Conn.) who rifled a strike into the net, tying the game at 1-1 with 18:08 on the clock.
- Torres turned provider moments later, delivering a perfect corner to the head of sophomore forward Emmanuel Ofori (East Hartford, Conn.) who guided the ball into the back of the net, giving USJ a 2-1 lead at the 26:57 mark.
- The Pride tried to relevel the match late in the first half, but senior goalkeeper Jose Miguel Garcia Martin (Madrid, Spain) produced a pair of saves to preserve the 2-1 Blue Jays lead entering the second half.
- Michael Torres (Hartford, Conn.) would increase the gap to 3-1 at the 57:59 mark, pressing the Pride goalkeeper before winning the ball and rocketing a trike into an empty net.
- USJ continued to keep their foot on the gas, as freshman midfielder Matthew Dima (Oxford, Conn.) increased the USJ edge to 4-1, working his way inside the box before rifling a shot off the right post and into the net at the 65:42 mark.
- The Torres brothers would link up to put the game to rest at the 80:55 mark, as Juan found Michael, who fired a strike into the net, increasing the lead to 5-1.
- The Blue Jays would continue to deny Regis any chance back into the game, holding on for the 5-1 victory.

- Ofori and Michael Torres netted their team-leading eighth goals each on the day.
- Juan Torres scored his first goal of the campaign, while Dima netted his third.
- USJ held a significant 18-9 edge in shots.
