Men’s Lacrosse Bests Lasell, 13–5, Extends Winning Streak to Six

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team maintained its perfect start to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a 13–5 victory over Lasell University on Wednesday afternoon at the USJ Lacrosse Field. With the win, the Blue Jays extended their winning streak to six games, improving to 8–1 overall and 5–0 in conference action, while the Lasers fell to 5–5 overall and 4–2 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • USJ struck first at the 10:22 mark, as freshman midfielder Brady Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) assisted on a goal by senior attack Nick Pestrichello (Newington, Conn.) to give the Blue Jays a 1–0 lead.
  • Lasell responded with two unanswered goals to close the opening quarter, taking a 2–1 advantage into the second.
  • The Blue Jays quickly evened the score, as junior midfielder Brenden Tedeschi (Orange, Vt.) found the net unassisted with 13:22 remaining in the half to make it 2–2.
  • Pestrichello then took over offensively, scoring his second goal at the 10:14 mark before converting a man-up opportunity off an assist from sophomore attack Dominic Oakes (Southington, Conn.) to extend the lead to 4–2 with 5:29 to play.
  • Junior attack Adam Pelletier (North Kingstown, R.I.) added to the surge by finishing a feed from graduate student attack Brycen Kennedy (Southington, Conn.) at 2:10 to push the advantage to 5–2. Pestrichello capped the half with his fourth goal of the game, sending USJ into the break with a 6–2 lead.
  • Lasell opened the second half with two quick goals to cut the deficit to 6–4 with 11:48 remaining in the third quarter.
  • USJ answered with back-to-back goals from Oakes and Kennedy to extend the lead to 8–4 at the 9:05 mark.
  • After a Lasell man-up goal trimmed the deficit, senior attack Freeman Johnson (Swanzey, N.H.) responded with a man-up tally of his own at 4:47. Pestrichello followed with his fifth goal of the game to give USJ a 10–5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Blue Jays' defense shut down the Lasers in the final frame, while Johnson, Pestrichello, and junior faceoff specialist Benjamin Bausch (Holliston, Mass.) each added goals to secure the 13–5 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

  • Pestrichello paced the offense with a game-high six goals.
  • Oakes recorded four points on one goal and a career-high three assists.
  • Senior defenseman Nick Wesley (Wakefield, Mass.) collected a team-high six ground balls.
  • Junior faceoff specialist Aaron Goldstein (Walden, N.Y.) led the Blue Jays at the faceoff X, posting an 8-for-14 mark.
  • Junior goalkeeper Noah Isleib (Easton, Mass.) played all 60 minutes in goal, making 13 saves to earn the win and improve to 8–1.

UP NEXT

The Blue Jays return to the road to continue GNAC play on Saturday, March 28, at Regis College. Opening faceoff against the Pride at Regis Stadium in Weston, Mass., is slated for 1:00 p.m.
