Men’s Lacrosse Breezes Past Emmanuel, 15–6, on the Road Saturday

BOSTON – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's lacrosse team dominated on both ends of the field, cruising past Emmanuel College, 15–6, on the road during Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field. With the victory, the Blue Jays improve to 5–1 overall and 3–0 in GNAC action, while the Saints fall to 2–3 on the season and 2–1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • USJ wasted little time opening the scoring, as senior attack Freeman Johnson (Swanzey, N.H.) threaded a pass to a wide‑open sophomore attack Dominic Oakes (Southington, Conn.) in front of the net. Oakes buried the opportunity to give the Blue Jays a 1–0 edge at the 13:19 mark.
  • The Blue Jays continued their strong offensive start when senior attack Nick Pestrichello (Newington, Conn.) worked himself into space and rifled a shot into the cage, extending the lead to 2–0 with 8:18 remaining.
  • Junior midfielder Brenden Tedeschi (Orange, Vt.) capped the first‑quarter scoring for USJ, receiving a feed from junior attack Adam Pelletier (North Kingstown, R.I.) before finding the back of the net to make it 3–0 with 5:29 left in the period. USJ's defense continued to stifle the Emmanuel attack, preserving the three‑goal advantage heading into the second quarter.
  • USJ struck early in the second stanza, as Tedeschi dished a perfect pass to freshman attack Landon Lapointe (Lutz, Fla.), who scored at the 13:58 mark to extend the lead to 4–1.
  • Emmanuel briefly halted the Blue Jays' momentum, but Pestrichello quickly reestablished the four‑goal cushion by fighting through the Saints' defense and netting his second goal of the game with 7:54 left in the half.
  • Pestrichello then turned provider, finding Oakes on a man‑up opportunity. Oakes delivered with a well‑placed shot into the top‑right corner, pushing the advantage to 6–1 at the 5:44 mark.
  • Emmanuel responded with two unanswered goals late in the quarter, sending USJ into halftime with a 6–3 lead.
  • Oakes completed his hat trick to open the third quarter before Emmanuel answered immediately, trimming the deficit to 7–4 with 11:23 remaining.
  • Tedeschi continued his standout performance by scoring off another Pelletier assist with eight minutes left in the third. Emmanuel responded once again, cutting the USJ lead to three, 8–5, at the 6:36 mark.
  • Later in the quarter, Oakes forced a turnover by a Saints defender, leading to a loose ball that fell directly to Pestrichello. Pestrichello capitalized by guiding the ball into an empty net, giving the Blue Jays a 9–5 advantage heading into the fourth.
  • Oakes opened the fourth‑quarter scoring off yet another Pelletier assist before Emmanuel found the net to make it 10–6 with 12:15 remaining.
  • From there, it was all USJ. The Blue Jays' defense did not allow another goal, while Pelletier and Tedeschi each scored twice down the stretch. Senior attack Quinn Perkins (Norwich, Conn.) capped the scoring to seal the 15–6 victory.
