Mitchell Earns National Recognition, Named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - After earning his second career Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week nod yesterday, senior guard Tyree Mitchell (East Hartford, Conn.) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team garnered national recognition, as he was selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week Tuesday morning. It marks the second-ever D3hoops.com Team of the Week honor in USJ men's basketball program history, as Mitchell joins teammate Jalen Samuels (Franklin, Mass.), who earned the honor earlier this season on November 14. In its 27th season, the Team of the Week presented by Scoutware, is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, which recognizes the top performance at each of the five positions across Division III men's and women's basketball from the previous week.

OFFICIAL D3HOOPS.COM RELEASE

Mitchell was selected at the guard position on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week following his standout performance over a pair of games this past week. He was one of five players chosen nationally, joining Whitworth's junior guard Jojo Anderson, Farmingdale State's senior forward Nick Hurowitz, Randolph-Macon's senior forward Daniel Mbangue, and Williams' senior center Nate Karren.

Mitchell helped power USJ to a 2-0 week and back to the top of the GNAC standings, averaging 34.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over a pair of GNAC contests. Mitchell was extremely efficient shooting the ball, connecting on 22-of-33 (67%) attempts from the field, including 8-of-13 (62%) from beyond the arc, and also converted 16-of-19 (84%) attempts from the free-throw line. He opened the week scoring a career-high 42 points (13-19 FG, 5-8 3FG, 11-13 FT), including his 1,000th career point, and grabbed six rebounds in a 108-77 victory on the road at Dean. The East Hartford native then followed that up by dropping a game-high 26 points (9-14 FG, 3-5 3FG, 5-6 FT) and grabbing nine boards in a 100-86 triumph at home versus intrastate and conference rival Albertus Magnus in a battle of GNAC undefeateds on Saturday.
