WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team connected on 9-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half to help build a 16-point lead at the break and never looked back, as they cruised to a 92-72 victory at home over the visiting Anna Maria College AMCATS in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest inside James A. Calhoun Gymnasium Wednesday night. With the result, the Blue Jays improve to 11-4 overall on the season and remain perfect in GNAC play at 4-0, while the AMCATS drop to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in league action with the setback.
Sophomore guard Lence Altenor (Everett, Mass.) had a career night to help lead the Blue Jays to victory. Altenor matched his career-high with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting form the field, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. The five triples also matched his career-high in a single contest. Additionally, he chipped in with a career-best seven rebounds, dished out three assists, and logged three steals. Senior guard Jalen Samuels (Franklin, Mass.) also eclipsed the 20-point threshold in the win for the Blue Jays, dropping 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and went 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
