Field Hockey Edged By Clark Tuesday, 1-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) field hockey team was edged by the visiting Clark University Cougars, 1-0, in a non-conference match on a crisp fall evening Tuesday in West Hartford at the USJ Field Hockey Field. The lone goal of the match came in the second quarter by the Cougars as the Blue Jays were held scoreless for the third time this season.

GAME INFORMATION
Score: USJ 0, Clark 1
Records: USJ (0-8), Clark (4-5)
Location: USJ Field Hockey Field (West Hartford, Conn.)

KEY MOMENTS

  • The lone goal of the game came from the Cougars exactly two minutes into the second quarter. Graduate senior Erin Hynes (Uxbridge, Mass.) received a pass from senior Abbe Cravinho (Bellow Falls, Vt.) and deposited it into the back of the net for what would stand as the game-winning goal.
  • The Blue Jays' best scoring chance came in the third quarter when they had appeared to tie the game. Senior Emma Kociszewski (Thomaston, Conn.) ripped a shot on goal that bounced and went waist-high of Clark's freshman goalkeeper Loren Root (Sherborn, Mass.). Root got a piece of the initial shot, but it snuck through her pads and looked like it was destined for the back of the net. However, Root was able to scamper back just in time in order to swat it away before it crossed the line to preserve the shutout.

NOTES

  • Tonight's game marked the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
  • Six of USJ's first eight games this season have now been decided by just one goal.
  • The Cougars held a significant advantage in shots on the evening, 23-4, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • Clark also earned 16 penalty corners while not allowing a penalty corner for USJ.
  • USJ's junior goalkeeper Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) made six saves between the posts in the setback.
  • Root finished with a pair of saves to record the shutout and improve her record to 4-5 on the season for the Cougars.
